| My Welsh program was begun as an "empty nest" project in 1996.
I purchased two chestnut yearlings in hopes they would grow to be a matched
pair for me to drive. As two year olds they were trained to drive but
the gelding was outgrowing the mare by quite a bit. So I took the mare
back to the breeder and traded her for three other geldings and I also
bought my foundation broodmare Evans Naked and Famous. My husband did
not let me go pony shopping alone after this trip.... taking one
pony back and bringing four home!! The four geldings were all trained
to drive and ride and eventually sold. The money from them went
towards another mare and a stallion. Meanwhile Evans Naked and Famous
had given me several nice foals. Two of them I have retained, Dry
Creek Whiskey in a Jar and Dry Creek Golden Melody. Melody and
Midnight Sleightly Fancy, one of the mares I bought, are my driving pair
now. They have been National Driving Pair Champions for the last two
years in a row. (2007 & 2008) In 2006 Gayfield's The Musician was
purchased from Gail Thompson as my herd sire. In his first show in
2007 the WPCSA Western Nationals, he came away with a Reserve Junior
Champion. In 2008 one of Evans Naked and Famous's colts, Dry Creek
Master Vandal, received his LOM as a four year old! I think Dry Creek Welsh is on its way! It sure has
been fun journey! phone: 541-938-6800 updated September 2009 |
