From the Back of
a Horse

In a dark, empty
bedroom
On a dust-covered
shelf,
Lies a tattered old
scrapbook
All by itself...

A collection of
pictures
And magazine
stories,
Once treasured
reminders
Of yesterday's
glories.

Photos of horses
And cattle and mules
And wild young
cowboys
Who bent all the
rules.

And the cowgirls who
loved them,
Yet were always too
shy
To do more than
smile
As the cowboys rode
by.

And what of the
child
Who put these
memories aside?
She's now a grown
woman
With a job as a
bride.

And a family, a
house,
A boss and a car,
But not enough time
To get very far...

From the duties that
took her
Away from this place
Where life moved
along
At a nice easy pace.

But the young
cowboy's spirit
Has not gone away,
It waits in the
darkness
Day after day.

For someone to
remember
That old dusty nook,
To pull up a chair
And open a book.

Then one day it
happened......
A light broke the
gloom
As the lost cowboy's
daughter
Stepped into the
room.

With the book in her
hand
She called for her
Dad,
And he laughed when
he saw it
Cause it made his
heart glad.

Then they sat down
together
In an overstuffed
chair,
A dad and his
daughter
With some memories
to share.

As he read her the
title
He smiled, of
course....
